Emma Hedderson BSc MA VetMB MRCVS
Having had a life-long passion for animals, I initially gained a first-class BSc honours degree in Equine Science at Wye, Imperial College before going on to Cambridge University where I graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2008.
After Graduating I worked in full time Equine Veterinary Practice for 4 years before having my daughter Lucy.
I’ve had a keen interest in complimentary treatments to conventional medicine since I rescued 2 geriatric dogs 14 years ago. They both had several medical disorders which were unresponsive or contraindicative to drug medication, so I began to explore other avenues of treatment for them.
My current Lurcher is unable to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs but as an elderly boy is suffering with arthritis and other geriatric concerns. As I explored ways to help him I discovered acupuncture through a veterinary colleague.
Acupuncture is an ancient treatment that has endured for thousands of years because of its profound healing and therapeutic effects in people. With relatively modern, western transposition of points, these benefits are now well recognised in animals.
The success with my own dog prompted me to train in veterinary acupuncture and subsequently set up my freelance veterinary acupuncture practice.
I am particularly interested in utilising acupuncture in the geriatric care and treatment of both horses and dogs, having personal experience with my own animals in this area.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with our own dogs and horses at home and pottering around the countryside. When we get the chance we love going on caravan trips in the UK and Isle of Wight. Whenever possible I take the chance to do some painting and drawing, not as often as i’d like!
